Baked pasta screams comfort food to me. It’s a hearty meal that is great for a cold, rainy day like today! The cheese and cream add such a richness to this dish, while the sausage and red pepper flakes give it a kick. This recipe will surely be one of your go tos!

1 pound mostaccioli
1 jar marinara (I like Rao’s or you can use homemade)
1 cup tomatoes, diced
1 pound italian sausage
1/2 onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup cooking wine
2/3 cup parmesan, grated
1 cup mozzarella
1 TSP italian seasoning
salt & pepper
1 TSP red pepper flakes
Directions
- Boil a large pot of water add pasta and cook according to instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan add sausage, onion and tomatoes. Cook on medium high heat until the sausage is cooked through. Halfway through cooking add in minced garlic. Season with salt, pepper and red pepper flakes.
- Once the sausage is browned add in cooking wine to deglaze the pan. Cook over medium high heat until the liquid has reduced by half. Add in marinara, cheese, heavy cream and italian seasoning. Let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add pasta to the sausage mixture and mix well. Put in large baking dish and top with additional cheese.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until cheese is bubbly. Enjoy!
Wine Pairing: a dry chianti would pair well with this dish. One of my favorites is Da Vinci.
